I'm Barbara Benincasa.

I'm the general manager of AAE Distribution at T. Rowe Price. 

I was approached by the company to support EMEA Distribution, and I found it a very intriguing and solid strategy to grow in the region. So I decided to join this company.

And once I joined, I also discovered that it is a very human company to work with.

The first two weeks, more or less, were completely dedicated to getting to know my colleagues and making sure that I was settled.

If you want to develop in your career, it's on you. You have to decide. You have to plan. You own your own career. 

But what T. Rowe Price does is give you a lot of opportunities—in different formats, in different shapes. It doesn't matter what your experience, level of seniority, age, or interests are. You can be sure you will find something that interests you.

In 2022, I was promoted to cover a broader role. I specifically liked how the topic was approached by my line manager.

I'm a working mom with two small kids. I have a mortgage here in the UK, and yet my line manager didn't assume that I was not mobile or willing to take on additional responsibilities. 

We have conversations about my career development and opportunities on a regular basis, I have to say. 

Having a sponsor, I believe, is super important for everyone. It has to be a person that you get on with—it cannot just be assigned to you. You have to choose your sponsor, and your sponsor has to choose you.

The sponsor is also not somebody that does everything for you—quite the opposite.

The sponsor is the person who really challenges you, who really understands your value and your potential, and helps you get this potential out of yourself just by indicating the path.

But then it's on you to find your path and to plan for your journey.
