31-May-2024 - Anh Lu, Portfolio Manager,
We see a wide range of investment opportunities within Asia ex-Japan equities. In our view, China’s latest policy support for the property sector suggests that officials have become more focused on stabilising the economy. Elsewhere, we think India’s prospects are bright, and government initiatives promoting manufacturing and innovation may be opportune amid global supply chain shifts.

Fund Summary
As an Asia-based investment team, we employ an unconstrained approach where fundamental research is key. We look to identify reasonably priced companies with compelling business models and quality management teams in industries conducive to sustainable growth. The promotion of environmental and/or social characteristics is achieved through the fund's commitment to maintain at least 10% of the value of its portfolio invested in Sustainable Investments, as defined by the SFDR. Additionally, we apply a proprietary responsible screen (exclusion list). The manager is not constrained by the fund’s benchmark, which is used for performance comparison purposes only.

31-May-2024 - Anh Lu, Portfolio Manager,
Asia ex-Japan equities rose in May amid divergent performances across the region’s markets. Strength in large Taiwanese technology stocks and fresh policy support for China’s housing sector were bright spots, whereas currency concerns held back Indonesian and Philippine equities. Within the portfolio, stock selection in China capped relative returns. Shares of an electric vehicle maker fell after its earnings missed consensus. In addition, the company delayed plans to launch fully electric car models amid a shortage of charging stations and showroom space. Our choice of Indian stocks also hurt relative performance. Shares of a life insurer declined. The company posted disappointing margins in April as less-profitable unit-linked products became more popular amid upswings in Indian equities. However, we are positive about the insurer’s long-term growth prospects through the increasing penetration of life insurance and higher-margin protection products in India. Conversely, our stock choices in information technology added value. A semiconductor chip designer’s shares rallied after it flagged artificial intelligence (AI) applications for data centres and auto chips as key growth drivers in the next decade. We expect the company to achieve strong earnings growth over time as it expands in new areas related to AI and other technologies.
31-Jan-2024 - Anh Lu, Portfolio Manager,
Financials was our biggest absolute sector position and overweight against the benchmark in January. We invested in a Philippine bank, which we believe can generate a healthy return on equity and benefit from a valuation upgrade. In contrast, we reduced our absolute exposure to both consumer discretionary and consumer staples, staying underweight these sectors. We sold out of a South Korean cosmetics company, which has been facing challenges in China but growing in other markets. We believe the stock is fairly valued and favour investment opportunities elsewhere.

Source for performance: T. Rowe Price. Fund performance is calculated using the official NAV with dividends reinvested, if any. The value of an investment and any income from it can go down as well as up. Investors may get back less than the amount invested. It will be affected by changes in the exchange rate between the base currency of the fund and the subscription currency, if different. Sales charges (up to a maximum of 5% for the A Class), taxes and other locally applied costs have not been deducted and if applicable, they will reduce the performance figures.

Daily performance data is based on the latest available NAV.
